PROJECT BRIEF: A campus museum to house the history of the Auraria neighborhood.
SITE: Intersection of Colfax and Kalamath in Denver, Colorado.
The museum uses architectural “patchwork” to represent its intention to mend the relationship between the current inhabitants of the Auraria campus and the displaced residents who previously called it home.
PRECEDENT STUDY
CONCEPTUAL MODEL EXPLORATION: Chipboard and acrylic.
Model investigates Eskenazi museum’s structure, axes, light, and forms on a conceptual level.
TEXTILE LOOK BOOK: Canvas, cotton thread, and vinyl.
Textiles and sewn patterns recreate Eskenazi museum concepts.
PAVILION
M O D E L: Wood structures house art for public viewing, concrete slabs provide seating.
HEXAGON MORPHOLOGY
mUSEUM CONCEPT
PATCHWORK DESIGN
Using the morphology as a guiding point, I split the composition into three main parts for exhibit, public, and admin spaces. These three building pieces are then joined together with transitional spaces clad in directional louvers to mimic textile grain and seams.
