PROJECT BRIEF: A tourist hotel that engages its context.
SITE: Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Our project explores the relationship between the local and the tourist and creates space for them to co-exist in the heart of Philadelphia’s museum district. The boutique hotel establishes a dynamic architectural dialogue between the building and the city using shifting, distinctly directional forms.
PROCESS
2D TO 3D ITERATIONS: SHAPING SPACE THROUGH MOVEMENT
Diagrammatic models represent the movement of space as it establishes dialogue with its context (including the city grid, other buildings, and specific neighborhoods where locals live).
SITE
SHIFTING PLANES TO ENGAGE CONTEXT
STREET VIEW | building volumes shift at each level to engage the parkway, city grid, and surrounding district. The central structural wall both anchors and delineates the volumes.

LOBBY, LOUVERS | the hotel appears to rest atop its lobby, which includes a mezzanine level. The elevator shaft acts as a pivot around which the upper volumes shift.
